This is very much a work in progress even after 20 years. As I add or update information I will keep you informed with posts you will see on the What’s New? page. I would greatly appreciate input and feedback. You can do that via your comments on the What’s New page or the Contact Me page or by email if you have my address. I’m not putting my email address up for all to see because there are too many spammers out there, but I will give it in my reply to a contact me. Recently I came across some rules a set of rules which genealogists should follow. I wish I had known then when I started. You can find them on the RULES page.

My Pollock/Elder Family Tree

Like so many others I only developed an interest in family history after my parents were gone. Both of my parents were born in Argenteuil County, Quebec, at the turn of the last century. So that is where I started.

Argenteuil County, Quebec, is located northwest of Montreal and east of the Ottawa River. It is a mix of good farmland, hilly terrain with numerous lakes and some very rocky land which offered marginal farming opportunities. During the first half of the 19th century settlers gained access by way of the Ottawa River and the North River and settled in the farmland along the North River. As more settlers arrived they pushed farther east and north into the hillier regions.

The following family names appear in my Pollock ancestral tree:

ARCHIBALD, BEWS, CHURCH, ELDER, FOSTER, HANNAFORD, HOLLEY, KIERNAN, KNOX, LANIGAN, MORROW, POLLOCK, RIDDELL, RIDDLE and WHINFIELD.

The this ancestral tree information is presented in three ways. In all cases I have cut off the report after the most recent generation where no members are living. If you are a relative and would like more recent information please contact me and I will give you what I have. The links  are here:

2. An index which will link you to all individual records in the family tree is at POLLOCK FAMILY ONE INDEX

3 A much more detailed descendant report for my most distant Pollock ancestor at is at JAMES POLLOCK.

In my search to find my family history I soon discovered that many Pollock families had settled in Argenteuil County, and a few in the neighbouring counties of Terrebonne and Deux Montagnes (Two Mountains.) With the belief that many of the Pollock families could be related in some way my search extended to include all of these families. They are introduced in the page THIRTEEN FAMILIES
